Landscape or portrait screen on your Pocket PC

When you choose custom resolution for your Pocket PC screen, you can also choose between portrait and landscape orientation. This is very convenient when an application needs more horizontal than vertical space (like word editors), but the default orientation is portrait. With dotPocket you can easily switch to landscape mode and vice versa when choosing your custom resolution.

You can also switch portrait/landscape orientation on the fly with the Screen Navigator. When  it is activated while the screen is zoomed in, a pop-up menu appears next to the blue square. This menu can be used to access the following navigation commands.

  • Fit to screen - Zooms out.
  • Rotate left - Rotates the screen contents counterclockwise by 90 degrees.
  • Rotate right - Rotates the screen contents clockwise by 90 degrees.
  • Flip - Rotates the screen contents by 180 degrees.

Changing resolution of your Pocket PC screen

The dotPocket product has its own version of custom video and touch-panel device drivers distributed with the application. They provide high-performance and high-resolution video output. It is to note that even though the dotPocket has its own version of custom device drivers, the application still works with the display device drivers currently installed on the Pocket PC.

The default, or "out-of-the-box" screen on your Pocket PC is 320 x 240 pixels in the portrait mode. Using the dotPocket you can change the resolution on your handheld computer to any size, including the predefined resolutions up to 800 x 600 pixels in either the portrait, or landscape modes. In addition, you can define customized resolutions of any size (e.g., 1000 x 1000 or 2000 x 2000 pixels). The following are the steps for using the Device Manager to change your handheld computer’s resolution.

You can either fit the whole virtual screen to the Pocket PC screen or use dotPocket browsing capabilities to view different parts of the virtual screen by "scrolling" it inside the real screen.

The blue square that appears on the screen is called the Screen Navigator and can be used to zoom in or out on the resolution.

The dotPocket Device Manager enables you to define custom resolution of your Pocket PC, set a password to protect your work sessions, adjust handheld computer’s hardware buttons and register your copy of dotPocket product.

Using Pocket PC remote control component

To use Pocket PC remote control component first of all you should establish connection between your Pocket PC and your desktop system.

You can use the following connection options.

You may specify the communication method that will be used to set the connection between your desktop/laptop computer and your handheld computer. RAPI (ActiveSync) is the default method; however, you can also use a TCP/IP connection.
- You can specify your preferred delay (in milliseconds) between sending video frames/changes from your handheld computer to your desktop.
- There is a possibility to optimize the connection between pocket/handheld PC and desktop PC for slow speed connections (COM-ports etc).
- You can choose to launch dotPocket every time MS ActiveSync establishes a connection to your Pocket PC.
- You may set up security option to authenticate any connection between your handheld and a desktop PC.

As soon as you establish a connection between dotPocket components, the window of the dotPocket application will show the screen of your Pocket PC.
