How to use the dotPocket

High Resolution Display Drivers for Pocket PC: Remote Control: Troubleshooting

Using the Screen Navigator

The dotPocket supports two types of display modes on Pocket PCs:

  • Fit to screen/zoomed out (default)
  • Zoomed in

The blue square that appears on the screen is called the "Screen Navigator" and can be used to zoom in or out on the resolution.

You can tap and move this blue square to any place of the screen.

Screen Navigator supports 3 modes:

  1. "Fit to screen" mode with the displayed blue square. In this case you see the whole virtual screen. It is the default mode after the reset of Pocket PC.
  2. If you tap-n-hold the blue square with your stylus pen, arrows will appear around it. The screen mode becomes zoomed in. The contents of the screen can be reviewed by scrolling: using the arrows to move left and right, and up and down. If you tap-n-hold the blue square again, a pop-up menu (dotPocket menu) appears next to the blue square.
  3. If you tap-n-hold the blue square again, this will result in the third mode: "Fit to screen" mode without the blue square.

Note: This zooming functionality can also be accessed by pressing the handheld computer’s hardware buttons (for more information see the Buttons tab of Device Manager). If you adjust some of hardware buttons to run the Screen Navigator, then each press on the adjusted button will correspond to the next mode of the Screen Navigator. Once in the zoomed mode, the handheld computer’s directional buttons can be used to navigate throughout the screen.

The dotPocket menu (a pop-up menu appearing next to the blue square) can be used to access navigational options. The following is a list of available options in this menu:

  • Fit to screen – Zooms out.
  • Device Manager – Launches the dotPocket’s Device Manager.
  • Device’s IP address – Displays the IP address assigned to the device. This information is required for establishing a remote connection between the dotPocket Desktop application and your handheld computer via a TCP/IP-based network.
  • Rotate left – Rotates the screen contents counterclockwise by 90 degrees.
  • Rotate right – Rotates the screen contents clockwise by 90 degrees.
  • Flip – Rotates the screen contents by 180 degrees.

Note: IP address of your Pocket PC is not static; it is assigned to your handheld computer each time a new session begins. During the given session the IP address is the same. When the Pocket PC is connected the next time, it can get another IP address.
IP address is also displayed on the Security tab of Device Manager.
