Q1. How can I know IP address of my mobile device?

IP address of your mobile device is not static; it is assigned to your PPC each time a new session begins. During the given session the IP address is the same. When the mobile device is connected the next time, it can get another IP address.

There are 2 ways to know IP address of your mobile device:

1. Run the dotPocket application. IP address will be displayed at the top of the dotPocket application screen. 2. Activate the PPC Screen Navigator.
Touch Device's IP address option of menu. IP address will be displayed.

Q2. What is the PPC Screen Navigator?

If you have chosen high resolution of the screen, it can occur such situation that the screen contents cannot be fitted to the PPC screen. Use the Screen Navigator to scroll the screen and view its invisible parts.

The blue square that appears on the screen is called the "Screen Navigator" and can be used to zoom in or out on the resolution.

To use the Screen Navigator, press on the blue square with your stylus pen; after about a second, the device screen zooms in and arrows appear around the square. Once in this 'zoomed' mode, the contents of the screen can be reviewed by scrolling using the arrows to move left and right, and up and down.

If the Screen Navigator is activated while the screen is zoomed in, a pop-up menu appears next to the blue square. This menu can be used to access navigational options. The following is a list of available options in this menu:

Q6. How can I connect my desktop/laptop PC to Pocket PC?

There are 2 connection methods: TCP/IP connection and RAPI connection. TCP/IP connection requires network card (PCMCI, Compact Flash etc) and knowledge of host IP address of your pocket/handheld PC. RAPI connection implies that you have Microsoft ActiveSync application installed on your desktop PC.

Q7. What is the difference between "Driver Integrated" and "Direct Video Memory Access" grab methods?

Grab method is the screen capturing method to be used on your handheld computer. The "Driver Integrated" method uses screen capturing algorithms based on direct access to Windows' graphical interface, either via the dotPocket display drivers or Windows GDI. The "Direct Video Memory Access" method requires the dotPocket to capture images on your handheld computer, directly accessing its video memory and bypassing the Windows OS.

If you choose Direct Video Memory Access grab method, then the screen of your mobile device will be displayed on your desktop screen without changes, as it is on the PPC.

If you choose Driver Integrated grab method, then the screen of your mobile device will be displayed on your desktop screen according to the specified resolution of the PPC screen.

Q14. During the instalation process, I've received the message "unable to find Shell32.dll". I'd like to know how this library is necessary fot the program to work correctly (what does it do), and what can I do to correct this problem, in order to make the program run correctly in my computer.

The problem you encountered is a result of using old version of Shell32.dll. For old operational systems as a Win95 or WinNT4, Microsoft shipped new version of it in MS Internet Explorer 4.0/4.01 distribution. However, distributions of the following versions of MS Internet Explorer do not contain update for this DLL (see Microsoft Notes below). In case you couldn't find this distributive, here is a required version of dll:
Note 2: All systems with Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.01 will have the associated version of Comctl32.dll and Shlwapi.dll (4.71 or 4.72, respectively). However, for systems prior to Windows 98, Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01 can be installed with or without the integrated Shell. If they are installed with the integrated Shell, the associated version of Shell32.dll will be installed. If they are installed without the integrated Shell, Shell32.dll is not updated. In other words, the presence of version 4.71 or 4.72 of Comctl32.dll or Shlwapi.dll on a system does not guarantee that Shell32.dll has the same version number. All Windows 98 systems have version 4.72 of Shell32.dll.

Note 3: Version 5.80 of Comctl32.dll and version 5.0 of Shlwapi.dll are distributed with Internet Explorer 5. They will be found on all systems on which Internet Explorer 5 is installed, except Windows 2000. Internet Explorer 5 does not update the Shell, so version 5.0 of Shell32.dll will not be found on Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98 systems. Version 5.0 of Shell32.dll will be distributed with Windows 2000 and Windows Me, along with version 5.0 of Shlwapi.dll, and version 5.81 of Comctl32.dll.
